One of the most difficult questions to settle in the cultivation of cannabis is that of pests and insects that infest your precious garden. But you don't necessarily want to go for off-the-shelf products to repel them - and you don't have to or advised to do so… Insecticides and repellents are generally toxic. Here's where to start to make the best homemade insecticide and repellant.

Most homemade insecticides for cannabis use ingredients that you already have in your kitchen, like soap, garlic, chili powder, and oil.

These DIY sprays will help you rid your garden of pests such as aphids, mites, whiteflies and beetles.

Oil-based insecticides

Oil-based insecticides for cannabis are made by combining vegetable oil, such as rapeseed, soybean, or cottonseed oil with other ingredients.

An oil-based spray works by suffocating the pores of insects like aphids, and mites.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of oil
  • 1 spoonful of Marseille or Castile soap
  • 1 quart of water

Recipe :

  • Mix 1 cup of oil with 1 tablespoon of Marseille soap mix well
  • Take 2 tablespoons of the mixture and dilute it in 1 liter of water
  • Put in a spray bottle and apply on your cannabis

Essential oils

You can also try vaporizing essential oils, like eucalyptus, rosemary, lemon, and cinnamon. Just mix them, dilute them with water and spray them directly on your plants.

Other growers prefer to apply other essential oils like cinnamon, cloves or cilantro directly to the cannabis leaves to repel pests. These oils can be used safely on cannabis plants.

  • 2 whole garlic cloves (no cloves)
  • ½ cup of vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon of mild soap
  • 2 liters of water

Recipe :

  • Mash the garlic bulbs with a little water.
  • Let the garlic mash overnight
  • Pass the garlic through a sieve
  • Mix garlic with ½ cup vegetable oil, 1 tsp. of mild soap and 1 liter of water.
  • Remove 1 cup of the mixture and mix with another quart of water.

Chili repellent (chili pepper)

  • ½ cup fresh peppers or 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • Liquid soap, like Castile or Marseille soap

  • Mash the peppers in 1 cup of water

  • Allow the mixture to cool
