Self-cultivation in Malaysia for medicinal purposes?
Cannabis plants can be cultivated for medicinal purposes and for research purposes, with the approval of the Malaysian Minister of Health.
The Director General of the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah, said that the law provided for a provision to plant cannabis with specific conditions or authorization.
"Recently, I read in the press the success of Malaysians residing abroad in the production of cannabis oil. I wonder if this can also be replicated here in Malaysia. Said Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah, Director General of the National Anti-Drug Agency of Malaysia.
"If we look at 1952's dangerous drug law, cannabis plants can be cultivated for medicinal purposes (...), hence the importance of first obtaining the approval of the Minister of Health", he added.
From Malaysia to the United Kingdom
At the CBD (Cannabidiol) press conference, the story of success of three Malaysians living in the UK since 15 years drew the attention of local media last June.
The Malaysians, made up of the couple Abdul Halim Pauzi and Nurul Ain Sahbudin, and their friend Mohd Roslan Abdullah, have not only studied the effectiveness of cannabis oil in medicine, but they have also obtained a product marketing license in 50 other countries of the European Union.
"Maybe someday, Malaysia could be an exporter of cannabis oil, but on the basis of regulations established by the authorities. "Concluded the Director General of AADK
Indeed, Zulkifli Abdullah said that if cannabis plants were able to provide medicinal values, something had to be done to ensure that they were well cultivated and compliant with legal requirements.
Parents: an indispensable implication
Zulkifli Abdullah said that under the new law elaborated
to deal with drug problems at an early stage, parents or other caregivers may be required to attend mandatory counseling sessions. Objective: to deal with drug problems at an early stage.
Thanks to the counseling sessions, it will then be possible to identify the problems and each actor will have to appropriate his own role in the process. Obviously, prevention starts at home.
